Treat the complaint as a system problem
An emissions warning can involve more than the diesel particulate filter. A truck may have a regeneration concern, a dosing fault, a sensor problem or a catalyst issue. Replacing or cleaning the most familiar component does not establish that the rest of the system is working.

What the components do
The diesel oxidation catalyst, or DOC, supports exhaust treatment and the conditions used in regeneration. The DPF captures particulate matter. Selective catalytic reduction, or SCR, uses a reaction supported by diesel exhaust fluid to reduce nitrogen oxides. Cummins provides an overview of these components and their relationship.
A one-box packages multiple aftertreatment components into one assembly. It still contains parts with different jobs. Packaging them together does not mean one cleaning method or one test proves that every component is healthy.
EGR, or exhaust gas recirculation, belongs to another part of emissions control. If your repair involves an EGR valve or cooler, include it in the inquiry so the proposed work identifies that component separately.
Establish what needs attention
Useful intake information includes the engine and emissions configuration, assembly number, diagnostic findings and any history of contamination. If a truck has had a recent engine or turbo repair, send that history too.
For a one-box, photographs should show the identification tag and the complete assembly. Marking only the vehicle model can leave important differences unresolved. For a removed DOC or SCR component, retain its identity and original position in the service record.
The investigation separates three questions:
- What fault or condition led to the service request?
- Is this component physically suitable for the proposed cleaning or repair?
- What checks will establish the result at the component and vehicle level?
These questions help keep a cleaning order from expanding into assumptions about sensors, dosing or catalyst performance that have not been tested.
Cleaning has to fit the component
Cleaning may be considered for a serviceable component with an addressable deposit or restriction. Its construction, contamination history, condition and applicable manufacturer guidance determine the method and eligibility.
Physical damage or a catalyst-performance concern can require a replacement decision. An assembly that passes air more freely after cleaning still needs the checks relevant to its function. Ask what the measured result establishes and which vehicle-level checks remain.
Where connections, flanges or sensor mounting points need work, include those items in the scope. A complete quote should identify the component service, any repair work, consumables, transport and removal or installation labor.
Give the repair a clear finish line
For a repair shop, the finish line may be a returned assembly and component findings that your technician uses to complete the job. For a vehicle owner, it includes installation and the appropriate follow-up checks. Establish which arrangement applies before service begins.
If the diagnosis is still uncertain, begin with diagnostics and regeneration service. For a component already identified for service, send its details and the requested return date. Fleets can include several assemblies in one inquiry, with a separate unit identifier for each.
Questions about related aftertreatment service
Does every DPF cleaning need a DOC cleaning too?
The scope depends on the condition, system and reason for service. Include the diagnostic findings and relevant component history rather than assuming every assembly needs an identical package.
Can you clean a complete one-box?
We accept one-box service inquiries. Send the assembly number, engine information, photographs and known faults so the cleaning, repair or replacement scope can be matched to the unit.
Will cleaning fix an SCR efficiency code?
A code needs application-specific diagnosis. The SCR system involves more than a removable catalyst. Establish the cause and required checks before treating cleaning as the repair.
Can EGR work be included?
Yes. Identify whether the request concerns a valve, cooler or a wider vehicle fault. The quote should describe the EGR work separately so the included service and any remaining repair are clear.
